October didn’t just bring rain. It brought new life, challenges, lessons, and decisions that remind us why we do what we do. Here, we share seven moments that shaped the rhythm of Finca T this month, stories from the heart of the land, written for those who roast with purpose!
First Cupping of the Drip Irrigation Plot
Last year, we introduced drip irrigation to an experimental plot, curious about how it might influence cup profile. This year we will have our first harvest. Typically new plantings take 4 years to produce their first harvest. We held our first internal cupping, comparing it to traditionally irrigated lots. The results are very very promising. If their quality holds during this harvest, we’re planning to expand the drip irrigation system in 2026. Innovation, it turns out, can be tasted!

Visits That Inspire us To Keep Going
This month, we welcomed friends who traveled to the farm to experience our work firsthand. We opened our doors, walked the coffee fields together, shared processes, stories, and cups, and answered every question with the transparency that defines us. These weren’t just visits they were encounters that reminded us of the power of showing what we do with pride. Seeing their faces light up as they discovered the origin of each bean reaffirmed what we believe: traceability isn’t just told, it’s lived. These trips are reserved for existing relationships--if you already work with us and interested in visiting, please reach out.

The Daily Struggle for Power
At the height of harvest, we faced power outages three to four times a week, threatening critical processes like wet milling and drying. In response, our team developed a manual restart protocol and trained staff to act swiftly. Each time the power went out, team members traveled 27 kilometers out and 27 kilometers back to manually reset the system often in the rain, often at night. While the blackouts continue, we now have systems in place to protect essential operations and minimize losses. Resilience, too, is something we cultivate.

The October 10th Storm: Loss and Resilience
A powerful storm hit the farm on October 10th, toppling trees and damaging shade areas. We assessed the damage, cleared fallen trees, and began planning reforestation. While these rains are part of the season, each event challenges us to adapt. We reaffirmed our commitment to conscious and resilient environmental stewardship.

New Drying Beds
With an increase in natural process lots, we needed infrastructure to ensure clean, even drying. We built raised beds using local materials, crafted by the hands of our own team. Everything will be ready for the harvest.

Roads that Connect More Than Coffee
The main road linking the farm to the community has deteriorated, affecting the transport of coffee, supplies, and people. We met with IHCAFE, the local municipality, and community leaders to present improvement proposals and seek technical support. A phased intervention plan was agreed upon. If fulfilled, it will not only improve logistics, it will strengthen the bond between the farm and the community.
Every year, we invest approximately $19,100.00 solely in road maintenance to keep this connection alive. It's a cost everyone assumes with conviction, because every meter of road repaired is a step toward shared progress, and a more accessible origin.

Life That Inspires: The Animals of the Farm
October greeted us with the arrival of the first lambs of the season. Just this month we had 3 new lambs joined our family, bringing our flock to approximately twelve. While our playful kittens continued to fill every corner with tenderness and energy, our team worked diligently to create safe spaces and ensure proper nutrition, integrating animal care as a vital part of our agricultural routine. Beyond their charm, the lambs play a strategic role in our biodiversity plan. Their presence supports soil health through natural fertilization. These little ones don’t just live alongside us they remind us daily that the farm is more than coffee. It’s a living ecosystem we nurture with purpose, respect, and love.

Believing in Every Child Is Always Worth It
At our school, we believe that every child holds the potential to transform the future and this month, that belief came to life. Dora Marcela Rivara and José Roberto Ramírez proudly represented our school in the regional speed and reading comprehension contest, bringing enthusiasm, dedication, and heart to every word they read.
We celebrate their effort, passion, and love for learning. Each achievement, no matter how small, reminds us that education changes lives and that investing in every child is always worth it.
