A Calf Is Born:  Biodiversity in Action

September 4 was a special day on our farm: our cow gave birth to a beautiful calf that we named Capitán. Today, we have 35 animals, including cows, heifers, and calves of the Brahman and Pardo Brahman breeds not for commercial dairy or meat production, but as part of our biodiversity strategy. These cows act as organic lawnmowers, grazing across our preserved pastures to prevent overgrowth and maintain healthy ecosystems. Their presence supports soil health, reduces the need for mechanical clearing, and contributes to the natural balance we strive to protect.

Pre-Harvest Prep: Machines, Teams, and Timing

As we approach harvest season, our team has completed maintenance on all processing equipment. This includes calibrating de-pulpers, cleaning fermentation tanks, inspecting drying beds and much more. These steps ensure that when cherries arrive, we’re ready to process efficiently and maintain our extraordinary quality.

Weather and Ripening, Monitoring Closely

The coffee trees are ripening steadily. Compared to previous years, we’ve had excellent weather-consistent rainfall and mild temperatures. However, recent storms have brought excess rain, causing drainage issues and mayor road damage around the farm. We’re monitoring cherry development closely, as oversaturation can lead to splitting and reduced yields.

Children’s Day:  Investing in the Future

We celebrated Children’s Day with games, food, and community activities at our school. Events like these remind us why we invest in education and local development. Our children are the future stewards of this land, and we’re committed to creating opportunities for them.

September 15:  Honoring Our Roots

Independence Day was celebrated with flag-raising and cultural activities. For us, this date is more than a holiday, it’s a reminder that every bean we produce carries the flavor and pride of Honduras.

Team Integration:  A Day at the Beach

We organized a beach trip for our team, including several employees who saw the ocean for the first time. The goal was connection and appreciation, not just relaxation. For many, it was a moment of reflection and joy, a rare opportunity to step away from daily routines and build deeper bonds with colleagues. The trip included shared meals, games, and storytelling, reinforcing the sense of community that drives our work. SOUTHCOM Visit: Medical Center Expansion

U.S. Southern Command visited the expanded Maternal Medical Center in Corquín, Copán, and donated a new wing to the clinic. This addition includes new consultation rooms and improved facilities for prenatal care. The visit also opened dialogue about future collaborations in health and education. The expansion is already serving dozens of families weekly, and we expect its impact to grow as awareness spreads.

Bird Study:  Ecosystem Guardians

Our Ag engineer William Amaya and Edras, a bird enthusiast, are conducting a biodiversity study across our farms, identifying dozens of bird species. Their work includes early morning observations-- the study is part of our broader sustainability efforts, helping us understand how wildlife interacts with coffee cultivation. These birds are not only beautiful, they’re indicators of environmental health and allies in pest control and pollination.
